OPPORTUNITIES TO GIVE

Christmas Giving Tree  — Nov.30 – Dec.15

This year, we will once again have the opportunity to give to those most vulnerable due to mental and physical illness, disability, or homelessness. By partnering with three local agencies   — Lutheran Social Services’ Greenbrier Apartments in Sycamore, Ecker Center for Mental Health, and Hesed House in Aurora – we are able to provide for some very basic needs and a few pleasures as well. Gift tags, with instructions, will be available on the Christmas Tree in the Connection Café on Nov. 30. Gifts are due back to Bethlehem no later than Dec. 15.

Gifts for Our Community

In addition to the Giving Tree, we would also be very grateful for monetary gifts that allow us to provide support or gifts for people who are struggling in our Bethlehem community. If you wish to contribute, please contact Pastor Sarah, Pastor Bill, or Kelly Collins.

Special Advent Offerings

All year, Bethlehem disciples accompany many of our brothers and sisters in Christ by providing staffing and food at Hesed House in Aurora and Lazarus House in St. Charles.  Both of these agencies also provide comprehensive services to resolve the range of issues that lead to homelessness, so as is tradition at Bethlehem, the offerings from the Dec. 17 Music Festival and the special offering envelopes available in the pews during Advent will go to these very important ministries. We are especially grateful that, this year, National Mutual Benefit will provide matching funds up to $2,500 to support services in our area.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR FUN AND FELLOWSHIP

Parents’ Night Out  ~  Dec. 2

Parents looking for time to do some Christmas shopping or perhaps have a date night can bring their children (6 months to 12  years) to a fun “Parents’ Night Out” event from 4:00 to  8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2. Kids will enjoy dinner, games, a service project and a movie with Bethlehem’s youth and adult mentors. Freewill offerings will go toward  the National Youth Gathering next summer.  For more details, or to sign up your children, click here.

 Women’s Potluck Advent Buffet  ~ December 5

Celebrate Advent with a potluck dinner, fellowship and a special hands-on service project at the annual Women’s Advent Buffet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5.  All are welcome to attend; please bring a main or side dish serving 10 to 12.  Participants will be creating care packages for people in inpatient substance abuse treatment at LSSI’s Behavioral Health Center. Please bring one item from each of four categories:  A $10 gift card, warm socks, a food treat and a personal hygiene item.  RSVP  here.

KidQuest  Caroling Night and Pizza Dinner ~ December 6

KidsQuest children and their families and friends,  and any other Bethlehem disciples who would like to join the fun, will meet in the Choir Room at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6 for caroling at a local senior care center. Weather permitting, we will walk as a group to the center and sing, then return to Bethlehem at 5:15 for a pizza dinner. Please wear warm clothing and bring a flashlight! If you’d like to help chaperone, please email Eva Richards, Eva@bethlehemluth.org.

Annual Progressive Dinner ~ December 9

Members who have registered for this annual event – from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, will travel to several disciples’ homes over the course of the evening to enjoy the various courses of a holiday dinner.

La Posada
Dec 20 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
La Posada @ Fellowship Hall

Join us for a Mexican “Posada” at Bethlehem at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, in Fellowship Hall.

Our Lutheran brothers and sisters from St. Andrew in West Chicago will bring this traditional Mexican experience to us.

Posada means “inn” in Spanish, and this celebration symbolizes Mary and Joseph’s long, frustrating search for a place to stay where Jesus could be born. Participants re-enact this story through song. Once Mary and Joseph are welcomed in, the service continues with Scripture, a brief homily, prayers and more songs. After the service, everyone is invited for refreshments, a piñata, fellowship and more Christmas music.

Posadas are held the nine nights before Christmas eve, and we are fortunate to have one of them here! We are invited to bring and serve refreshments.

Please fill out the form if you are able to help Ingrid Nelson plan and decorate for this event or provide refreshments.  It would be helpful  in planning if you could indicate your possible attendance, but reservations are NOT required — we want everyone to feel welcome to take part in this wonderful event.
