NOLA Day One: St. Charles to Memphis
We Made it to Memphis! After departing Bethlehem and hugging families goodbye we embarked on our 11 hour van ride down to Tennessee. For our first stretch, one van grabbed some zzz’s while the other had enlightening conversations. We then stopped for a quick lunch at subway to provide for our diverse dietary needs. Having full stomachs, the mission-goers made it through the home stretch along with the help of the song “Walking in Memphis” by Marc Cohn. We then arrived at the generous church of St. Luke in Cordova, a suburb of Memphis. Once settled in, the group loaded back into the vans for a night on Beale street. One half went to a famous barbecue joint ” The Pig” while the other had a marvelous meal at a Jamaican restaurant, “Evelyn & Olive”. To end our adventure, we strolled down Beale street where three friends got airbrush temporary tattoos (NOT REAL, WASHABLE) of crosses as a reminder that we are serving for the Lord. To end the night we had a brief devotion, wrote a thank you to our hosts, and planned for the departure for the next day. Check back tomorrow for more.
