NOLA Day Six: Growing Closer and Stronger
Today started off early again, leaving for breakfast at 6:45. After packing our lunches for our work site, we enjoyed yogurt parfaits and croissants while most of us were still half asleep. We then went straight to our work site to start day three of drywalling. Today we all worked very well together getting lots of work done very efficiently. After a few hours of work which surprisingly went by very fast, we got in the vans and went to the lakeshore to eat our lunch. Lots of flies joined us as well. After this it was right back to work, some of us more energetic than others.
After saying goodbye to our fellow workers from Los Angeles, we went back to the dorms to get ready for dinner. Dinner today was quite different as we were invited to join a member of the church for dinner at their elegant house filled with unique artwork and jambalaya. After filling our bellies we all gathered upstairs to watch the University of Michigan’s Men’s Glee Club’s documentary about racial equality, featuring our own Palmer Corbett. After thanking our hosts we made our way to a Katrina memorial where we had a moment of silence and our eyes were opened to the people who lost their lives in Katrina. We then cheered ourselves up with coffee and beignets and an interesting photo shoot in City Park. After a long and powerful day we wrapped things up with our usual highs and lows and ended in prayer.
