About Our Advent Series: From Generation to Generation

About Our Advent Series: From Generation to Generation

About our Advent Series—“From Generation to Generation” by Sanctified Arts

This Advent, we consider Mary’s words from her song of protest and praise:

“Surely from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation” (Luke 1).

We are invited to look at the characters in our scriptures and wonder: What did each character contribute? How did each participate in God’s liberation and love? This theme is also a call to action for us today. What is our role now? What is our generation’s task? What will we carry forth, and what should we leave behind? What seeds are we planting for the future?

It is our prayer that this Advent will remind us of all of the ways our lives, histories, actions, and stories are interconnected and woven together. In the midst of narratives, policies, and rhetoric designed to divide us, what does it look like to practice belonging to one another? The work of God is always unfolding—in and through us.

This Advent season, how will we carry it forth?

Gift Cards for our Community

BLC is collecting gift cards to distribute to the missions we regularly support, Lazarus House, Hesed House and our sister congregation in West Chicago, St. Andrews. All gift cards should be delivered to the church office by Monday, December 19. We thank you in advance for your generosity and giving this Christmas season.

Details about types and amounts of gift cards can be found below:

This season the purchasing of gift cards will help Lazarus house guests with their basic needs. The gift cards help with prescriptions, clothing, shoes and transportation. Gift cards are requested from Amazon, Visa, MasterCard, Target, Meijer, Aldi and Walmart.

Hesed House is requesting checks in any amount or gift cards in any of the following amounts: $5, $10, $15, $25, or $50 increments (Speedway, Thorntons-Gas Only Cards, Dollar Tree/Dollar General, Walmart, Target, Meijer, Costco, Sam’s, and local fast-food restaurants).

Our sister ELCA congregation in West Chicago would be incredibly grateful to receive gift cards in any amount. Pastor Josh, who serves the St. Andrew community, says he receives many requests this time of year from families looking for assistance to provide resources for the purchase of clothes (winter coats, shoes, gloves), toys, food, gas, and other necessities.

An Evening With Mary Advent Buffet

An Evening With Mary Advent Buffet

Women’s Advent Buffet
Tuesday, December 6, 6:30pm

Welcoming ladies and girls of all ages to “An Evening With Mary”.  This is our first event since 2019!  Please invite family, friends and neighbors. You don’t need to be a member of a circle to attend! ALL ARE WELCOME!!

It is a potluck dinner, so bring a dish to share. Beverages and dessert will be provided.  Many men from Bethlehem have volunteered to be our servers for the evening.

We will sing Christmas carols and enjoy the music and monologue of: Heart Whispers: Pondering with Mary.

In the Gospel of Luke we read, “Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.”  What might it have been like, for Mary to try to grasp all that had happened to her? Through music and monologue, guest actor, Chelsea Morgan, and Bethlehem disciple Dori Erwin Collins will explore this question.  We’ll meet a young Mary and a mature Mary who share their deepest heart whispers, and invite each of us to ponder as well, embracing the very soul of the season.

Again this year, Bethlehem will be supporting foster children at Christmas so we invite you to participate in this church wide tradition.

To sign up or for more information, please contact Linda Culley at Lculley4@hotmail.com, text or call 630-531-8841. RVSPs are appreciated but not required.
