Council Meeting Minutes

Open Forum: Condolences to Cheryl on the death of her mother.

Devotion: DH summarized the Reconnection Hour discussions on race relations. Using “Dialogues” and a documentary video on having conversations, we are prompted to answer the question “How do you become racially literate?”

Agenda Item #1: Stewardship Plan 2022

Discussion: DH reviewed the document Grateful People, Generous People. This is a working outline with flexibility for the year. The question was raised – How is the congregation aware of this direction? What is the job of the council? The need to know how to launch this message/format could be presented at next month’s meeting.

Agenda Item #2: Formation of Teams

Discussion: The 4 areas were identified and described by DH and PP. Struggling with exact titles of each team, rostered leaders will be working with each area. Council members may also serve as liaisons. Names of interested disciples to serve on the teams are being identified by the rostered staff and council members. The proposed purpose of each team was presented:

1. (DH/PS) Building/Capital Campaign – Look at resources, investments, internal spending vs. external spending

2. (PP) Faith Formation – Transform the (0-105 years) education program, Sticky Faith book to guide process

3. (PS) Worship/Live-Streaming – Coordinate worship life, develop other leaders

4. (DH) Advocacy/FRVI – Develop a strategy involving spirituality and relational power, leadership training

Agenda Item #3: Mask Optional

Discussion: At an emergency zoom meeting on March 3, 2022, the BLC council reached consensus to go “mask optional” for the preschool on 3/7/2022 and “mask optional” for the congregation on 3/9/2022. Observations of this first week were shared. More direction is needed on “sharing of the peace” to avoid awkward moments.

Agenda Item #4: Council Retreat

Discussion: In preparation for the annual retreat being held in-person on Saturday, March 19th, council members were reminded to review the proposed 2022 congregational goals document and read suggested articles for discussion.

Discussion: Financial questions were directed to DH.
