May 16, 2021 Last week, Deacon Heather invited us to consider “last words,” not just the last words that are spoken before life comes to an end, but the “last words” that are spoken before all the other endings and beginnings that occur in our lives on this side of heaven. Words spoken before your child drives away in the car on her own for the first time, words spoken before the last day on the job, words spoken before the first day of college, words spoken before a transplant. Final words matter. Sometimes we don’t get the opportunity to say them, as we don’t always know that a departure or a death of some kind is near; but when we know that final words are being spoken or heard, they matter so much.
