June 14, 2020 If you’ve read through the gospels, even just skimmed through the gospels, you pretty quickly get a sense for the kinds of things that Jesus did to communicate God’s love to the people he met. We know the ways he healed the sick and attended to the forgotten and welcomed the outsider and fed the hungry – all these tangible and transformative ways that Jesus brought the kingdom to earth. But what grips my attention in this passage from the gospel of Matthew is noticing the emotion, or the stirring, it’s hard to know what exactly to call it – the thing that happens inside of Jesus that seems to inform and fuel his acts of justice and mercy day after day.
