Lazarus House in the Free Methodist Church at 3rd and Walnut Streets in downtown St. Charles is open 365 days a year, serving men, women and children connected in the school districts of St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia and western Kane County who are homeless or at risk. Lazarus House offers safe, overnight shelter, food and support services, and is staffed both by volunteers and professionals.
Lazarus House offers three major programs:
- An Emergency Shelter serving mid Kane County open 365 days a year. Emergency shelter staff are available 24/7 and may be reached at 630-587-2144.
- The only transitional housing program (Center for Transitional Living) in the Tri-Cities and western rural Kane County area.
- An outreach program that provides rent, mortgage and utility assistance to qualifying households when grant funds are available.

Bethlehem disciples provide food and on-site overnight help for approximately 60 guests on the second Saturday evening of each month throughout the year. Our needs include a volunteer for an overnight shift from 9:00 pm-7:00 am. and volunteers to provide hot dishes, salads/vegetables, desserts/fruits, milk/juice and bag lunches.

Hesed House at 659 River Street near downtown Aurora is a center for ministries providing services for poor and homeless individuals and families. Housed in a building that was formerly the Aurora incinerator, this facility has now become a beacon of hope and light to hundreds of people who are struggling to rise out of poverty.
On-site volunteer activities are still suspended, so a small group of us will be preparing our “signature meal” at Bethlehem and delivering it ready to serve. There are still volunteer opportunities (dessert bars & breakfast sandwiches) that need to be filled.
